Subject area Goals Prepare all performing arts students with a strong foundation and training in proper techniques. Encourage students to improve their skills and instill an appreciation for the performing arts. 565 Senior Art S - 1/4 credit Prerequisite: None Senior Art has required art projects that give the student a foundation in the elements and principles of art. It also allows for projects of choice in which the student can explore different art Medias and art forms. Medias used are pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pastels, oils, watercolor, and block printing. Art history is extensively incorporated.

534 Drama Classics
S - 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: None.
The Classics- included is the study of the history of theater from the ancient Greeks through the Renaissance period, culminating in an in depth study of Shakespeare and the modern classics. Students in this class will also begin to understand the language of Shakespeare, and to recognize how "live" theater has mirrored the development of civilization and cultures. They will gain an appreciation for some of the greatest thinkers in literary history.
535 Drama Performance
S - 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: None.
The Actor's Instrument - The first 9 weeks will focus on the voice, using reader's theater, vocal interpretation, vocal exercises, accents and dialects. We will focus on the body, including relaxation techniques, pantomime, clowning, sense memory and recall, stage combat, and various physical skills that an actor needs in order to increase his/her capacity for roles. The second nine weeks is an intensive "scene study" which teaches the students to dissect and analyze memorable scenes from classic plays.
537 Honors Drama
S - 1/2 credit
Prerequisite: Must be in 11th or 12th grade, with at least one semester of Senior Drama with a grade of A- or better.
Graduating seniors will have priority. Honors Drama scholars will be challenged to excel in all facets of theater. They might perform scenes and monologues from classic plays, or they might rehearse and perform in a full-length play. The craft of acting will be studied in depth. A classic film will be viewed and analyzed. At least one play by William Shakespeare will be studied.
538 Drama IV (Stage Craft)
S - 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: None.
This class will cover most aspects of the technical side of a stage production, including set design and construction, lighting, sound, backstage crew, curtain operation, stage management, etc.
310 Symphony Orchestra (grade 7-12)
Y 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: Minimum 2 years experience on chosen instrument. Audition and approval from Ms. Thornton.
This class is made up of students with advanced experience on a string, woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. Students should be prepared to meet the requirement to practice 30-45 minutes everyday. It is highly recommended that every member of the Symphony Orchestra enroll in private lessons from a qualified music teacher.
311 Beginning Strings (grades 7-9)
Prerequisite: None.
This is a beginning string method course. Students will learn the fundamentals of playing a string instrument and perform a concert at the end of each semester. Students should be prepared to meet the requirement to practice 30-45 minutes everyday.
315 Honor Strings (grade 10-12)
Y 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: Minimum 2 years experience on chosen instrument. Audition and approval from Ms. Thornton.
This class is made up of advanced string players performing in a chamber music tradition. Students should be prepared to meet the requirement to practice 30-45 minutes everyday.
330 Wind & Percussion Ensemble (grades 7-9)
Y 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: Minimum 1 year experience on chosen instrument. Approval from Ms. Thornton. Intermediate level; experience required.
This class offers performance opportunity for the following instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and percussion. Students interested in learning percussion will also be required to learn a brass or woodwind instrument. Students should be prepared to meet the requirement to practice 30-45 minutes everyday.
342 Concert Choir (grades 9-12)
Y 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: None.
Beginning/Intermediate mixed voice choir which will perform a concert at the end of each semester. Students will learn the essentials of good vocalization, notation, reading, and musicianship. In addition to mixed voice settings music selections will also include arrangements for men and women only.
344 Select Choir (grades 10-12)
Y 1/4 credit
Prerequisite: Minimum of 1 year experience in a vocal ensemble. Audition and approval from Ms. Thornton.
Intermediate/Advance vocal ensemble performing a full choral repertoire from Renaissance to Modern music. This ensemble will perform at least one concert each semester, and may travel to festivals and off-campus venues. Students are highly encouraged to participate in the Solo & Ensemble and Regional Festivals in January. A one year commitment is preferred for this course.
347 Music Theory (grades 10-12)
S 1/4 Credit
Prerequisite: Private music lessons and/or participation in a school performing ensemble.
Notation, scales, keys, modes, intervals, chords, basic part writing and composition. Development of related aural skills through sight-singing and dictation.
