Foreign Languages
Subject Area Goal: The student will competently use a foreign language for written and oral communication and demonstrate knowledge of appropriate cultural behaviors. Students must complete 2 years of studies in the same foreign language.
S = Semester Class (meets every other day)
Y = Year long Class (meets every other day)
B = Block Class (1 semester, 1 credit classes) Meets everyday, counts as 2 classes

410 Spanish I or 420 French I
Y - 1 credit
Prerequisite: None
Introduces students to the basic vocabulary of the language and components of the culture of the countries in which the language is spoken. Prepares students to begin to read, write, speak and understand.
411 Spanish II or 421 French II
Y - 1 credit
Prerequisite: One-year language or demonstrated competency.
This course provides further refinement of the skills acquired in the first year. Level 1 skills are reviewed and new skills are added in the areas of reading, writing and speaking. Appropriate cultural components are studied.
412 Spanish III
Y - 1 credit
Prerequisite: Spanish I & II or teacher approval
Elective/Recommended for college bound students. Also required for distinction in Foreign Language. This course is taught mostly in Spanish and students will be required to speak, read, listen, and write in Spanish using correct grammar. Field trips and additional cultural activities will be a part of the curriculum. This course will include the reading and study of a classic in Spanish.
