Summer College Prep
What Should I Be Doing this Summer to Prepare for College?
Dual Enrollment: Heritage Academy is adding a new batch of Dual Enrollment classes next Fall. Below is a list of all the Dual Enrollment classes they are offering.
- Physics, US History, English 101, English 102, Professional Writing, Intro to Literature, Trigonometry, College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, MS Word, Spanish
If this is the first time you’ll be taking Dual Enrollment, make sure to visit the Rio Salado Testing Center on Stapley and I-60 to create your account and take the required reading and math entrance tests. Both actions are free. Hours are Mon-Thur, 8am – 9pm; Fri & Sat 8am – 5pm. You may call 480-377-4150 to make an appointment or walk in. Again, these entrance tests are mandatory pre-requisites for taking Dual Enrollment classes at Heritage.
Service Positions: (current 9th grade through 11th grade) Obtain a long term volunteer position. Track any service hours completed and descriptions of what the service entailed. If possible, volunteer in the field that you are interested in pursuing as a career.
Research Colleges: (current 10th grade through 11th grade) Research the possible colleges that you would like to attend. Make a general list of possible colleges. Then through further research, comparisons and campus visits, narrow your selection to three to five before your senior year of high school begins. Complete the entrance and scholarship applications in the fall semester of your senior year.
Practice Questions: (all grades) If we don’t use our knowledge, we lose it (especially math). Don’t let your brain forget what you worked hard to obtain in school. Study for the placement test, AIMS test, PSAT, SAT and ACT. Even as a little as a one practice question every day, to keep your mind sharp.

Take College Classes: (all grades) Enroll in college classes to get high school and college credits done. Either take online classes through Rio Salado or in the classroom at a nearby community college.
Register & Enroll: (current 12th grade) Register for college classes as soon as possible (Don’t forget the little tool of www.ratemyproffessors.com to help get the best teachers). Complete all the admissions requirements including sending final transcripts to universities and arranging housing if you are going away for college.
